Character Design - Sarah Lin

Some concept art for THULE, a novel that I did quite a few drafts for awhile back but never finished. I've really been having the urge to work on this lately, so maybe after the second ALL HALLOWS EVE volume, I'll take some time off from that universe to do this.

I wasn't really sure how I wanted Sarah to look. But then, just the other day, I saw a girl on the bus and was like "OMG that's her! That's what Sarah looks like!" So thank you, anonymous purple-haired Asian girl who rides OC Transpo. You're now in my magnum opus.

I'm still experimenting with the style for this project, but I'm quite pleased with how this turned out. Sarah here is a teenage gang member with an impressive knife collection, but you just don't see that side of her in this pic. What you see is a girl who just lost her whole family and is surviving thanks to her neighbor's charity. But if this is starting to sound like a Mary-Sue revenge fantasy, never fear. She's not even the protagonist. Instead we focus on the son of the charitable neighbor in question (and Sarah's new house mate), who has just learned that his great grandfather was a Nazi war criminal and finds himself haunted by the figure of a woman in a black veil [link]
